Priorities for 2023-2024

My favorite question to ask candidates running for office or party leadership positions is What are your priorities? I think it's invaluable to have a vision for the position one is seeking.

These are my priorities for the 2023-2024 cycle should I be returned to represent the 45th on the Washington State Democratic Central Committee:

  • Run for the executive board: I would love to put my ten years of experience to work for the 1st Congressional District as its representative on the executive board, which I have never served on. That's the body that works with the elected officers to make decisions on the party's behalf in between meetings of the Washington State Democratic Central Committee.
  • Continue improving party governance. I have several ideas for improvements to the state party's bylaws and charter that I plan on introducing for discussion and consideration. For example, I think e-board representatives should be required to provide written reports to the SCMs they're accountable to, and the state party office required to provide email lists to the e-board members so they can communicate with their constituents.
  • Strengthen our bench and leadership pipeline. Last cycle, I gave three members of our district party organization the opportunity to carry my proxy at state central committee meetings, so they could get a taste of how the state committee works. I plan to once again share my responsibilities with people who want to try their hand at representing us on the state central committee meeting. I think it's especially important that we get more millennials and Gen Z youth involved in our party at all levels and provide opportunities for learning how the party runs and gaining leadership experience.
  • Organize to win our rural areas. Rural communities in Washington deserve quality Democratic representation just like urban and suburban communities. Trump and DeSantis worshiping Republicans don't make good state legislators or members of Congress. Redrawn districts like the 12th need an infusion of party resources, and I'll champion investments and strategies that will grow our party in places where it has recently been weak.

If elected, I will also support effective and deserving candidates for party officer positions, for Democratic National Committee, and for 2024 Democratic National Convention delegate.
