Priorities for 2025-2026
My favorite question to ask candidates running for office or party leadership positions is What are your priorities? I think it's invaluable to have a vision for the position one is seeking.
These are my priorities for the 2023-2024 cycle should I be returned to represent the 45th on the Washington State Democratic Central Committee:
- Return to the executive board: Last term, I was elected to serve on the executive committee. That's the body that works with the elected officers to make decisions on the party's behalf in between meetings of the Washington State Democratic Central Committee. I am eager to return to the role to help guide our strategy through the difficult years ahead and advise our officers in crafting the best possible budgets and personnel policies.
- Continue improving party governance. I've already submitted a bylaws amendment to be considered at our reorganization meeting in Tacoma that would give chairs, vice chairs, and WSDCC members access to each other's contact information, including email addresses. I'm also sponsoring two charter amendments drafted by our Chair, Aaron Schrader.
- Strengthen our bench and leadership pipeline. I've already been approached by some folks wanting guidance and mentorship as they ponder running for office or seeking positions in the party during this midterm cycle. Supporting them will be a top priority.
- Organize to win our rural areas. Rural communities in Washington deserve quality Democratic representation just like urban and suburban communities. Trump worshiping Republicans don't make good state legislators or members of Congress. Districts like the 12th, 14th, and 17th need an infusion of party resources, and I'll champion investments and strategies that will grow our party in places where it has been weak.
If elected, I will also cast thoughtful and informed votes for officer candidates. We are unlikely to have competitive elections for most of the officer positions this cycle, but if there is more than one candidate for a given position, my decision will be informed by diligent deliberation.
